San Francisco, CA—Wednesday, April 7, 2021—On Thursday, April 8, a new exhibition featuring a selection of work by 16 emerging artists from California College of the Arts’ graduate program in fine arts opens at 360 Kansas Street in San Francisco. This is a meaningful milestone for the graduating students and marks the first in-person exhibition at CCA since the school transitioned to remote coursework due to the health risk posed by COVID-19.

Organized by writer, critic, and CCA faculty member Glen Helfand, the exhibition features work across mediums and addresses themes/topics including the travails of 2020, contemporary feminism, the malleable human body, and urban environment.

“After a roller coaster year of Zoom classes and critiques, it is so heartening to be able to mount an IRL exhibition,” says Helfand. “Mounting this show was the first time many of us were able to see the works, and the artists, in person. It is fantastic to see how the shifting conditions have not thwarted their creativity one bit!”

This exhibition is part of a range of thesis offerings developed to meet the conditions of this unprecedented year. CCA’s entire 25-student MFA graduating class will showcase their work on the website 2021.CCAMFA.art beginning Monday, May 10.
