New Hubbell Street Galleries to open September 27, 2016
A series of new storefront galleries opens one block from the San Francisco campus and features the work of students, faculty, and visiting artists.
California College of the Arts (CCA) will increase its visibility in the neighborhood with a series of new storefront galleries one block from the main San Francisco campus.
The CCA Hubbell Street Galleries will open on September 27, and there will be a celebration for the community on Thursday, October 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The new gallery space is located at 161 Hubbell Street near 16th Street and is part of the new Potrero 1010 apartment complex.
According to CCA’s Director of Exhibitions Jaime Austin, the galleries will be programmed year-round with projects and exhibitions featuring work by CCA students, faculty, and visiting artists.
In addition, the PLAySPACE Graduate Center Gallery will move to the Hubbell Street location.
All exhibitions will be free and open to the public.
Opening Exhibition: Local Resource
The opening exhibition, Local Resource, will be on view at the CCA Hubbell Street Galleries September 27–October 22, 2016. The opening reception will be held October 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Local Resource is a thematic exhibition program presented in collaboration with local partners to introduce and showcase existing art and community resources in the Potrero Hill, Dogpatch, Mission, Mission Bay, and SOMA neighborhoods of San Francisco.
The exhibition will also demonstrate ways the new CCA galleries can serve as a resource for both CCA students and the surrounding community.
Spanning four gallery spaces, the exhibition will consist of art objects from nearly 20 community partners that will be displayed alongside information about each organization.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a lunchtime talk series and a public reading room containing a curated selection of books, periodicals, and editions. (Dates and times for the public programs will be announced soon.)

Location & Hours
The CCA Hubbell Street Galleries are located at 161 Hubbell Street. The galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from noon to 7:30 p.m.
