California College of the Arts (CCA) reaches collective bargaining agreements with unionized staff, faculty
Employees ratify three-year agreements
San Francisco, CA—April 13, 2022—California College of the Arts (CCA) employees represented by SEIU Local 1021 have voted to ratify tentative collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) with the college. Two separate agreements will cover approximately 130 union-represented staff and 500 adjunct faculty employed by the college. This will be the staff unit’s first CBA, and the second for the faculty.
In a message to the CCA community, President Stephen Beal stated that the college’s goal through the negotiation process was to “achieve mutually beneficial agreements that support CCA’s commitment to our students, our employees, and a sustainable future for our college.” Highlights of the staff agreement include increased compensation—especially for the college’s lowest-paid employees—additional paid time off, and other improvements to working conditions and benefits. Adjunct faculty will receive regular pay increases, increased access to benefits, and a remote work/commuting stipend that will apply to ranked faculty and all staff as well.
“I am confident that these agreements will contribute to a fair, equitable, and supportive working environment for all our employees that reflects CCA’s position as an outstanding art and design school, and as an outstanding place to work,” said Beal.
The negotiations took place virtually for many months due to pandemic restrictions, culminating in agreements shortly after the bargaining teams were able to return to in-person negotiations this spring.
